If you’re looking for the ultimate comfort food that practically cooks itself, these creamy slow cooker Amish Style Potatoes are about to become a family favorite!

Tender accordion cut russet potatoes are slowly cooked in a rich blend of butter, cream, broth, and seasonings until perfectly soft and flavorful. Add a layer of melted cheddar cheese on top and you’ve got a side dish everyone will be asking for again and again.

✨ Ingredients

For the potatoes:

🥔 2½ to 3 lbs russet potatoes (about 4 to 5 large potatoes)

🧈 ½ cup unsalted butter, cut into thin slices

🥛 1 cup heavy cream

🍲 ½ cup chicken or vegetable broth

🧂 1 teaspoon salt

🌶️ ½ teaspoon black pepper

🧄 ¼ teaspoon garlic powder

🧅 ¼ teaspoon onion powder

🌰 ⅛ teaspoon ground nutmeg

🧀 1½ cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese (optional but highly recommended)

🌿 Fresh chives or parsley for garnish

✨ Step by Step Instructions

1️⃣ Wash and Prep the Potatoes

Scrub the potatoes well and pat them dry.
Using a sharp knife, make vertical slices across each potato, cutting about three quarters of the way through without cutting all the way to the bottom. The potato should stay connected at the base and fan out slightly.

Repeat with all potatoes.

2️⃣ Season the Potatoes

In a small bowl, mix together the salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and nutmeg.

Gently fan open each potato and sprinkle the seasoning mixture between the slices and over the top.

3️⃣ Layer in the Slow Cooker

Lightly grease the slow cooker.

Arrange the potatoes inside and tuck slices of butter between the potatoes and into some of the cuts.

4️⃣ Add the Cream Mixture

Mix the heavy cream and broth together.

Slowly pour the mixture over the potatoes, allowing it to seep into the slices.

5️⃣ Cook

Cover and cook on LOW for 4 to 5 hours or HIGH for 2½ to 3 hours.

The potatoes are ready when a knife slides easily through the center.

6️⃣ Add the Cheese

During the last 15 to 20 minutes of cooking, sprinkle the cheddar cheese over the potatoes.

Cover and allow the cheese to melt until bubbly and delicious.

7️⃣ Garnish and Serve

Top with fresh chives or parsley and serve warm with all that creamy sauce spooned over the potatoes.

😍 Perfect with roast chicken, grilled steak, a fresh salad, or your favorite family dinner.
